Absence can be a significant cost to an employer both as direct benefit costs and losses of productivity. In addition the indirect costs associated with absence that can effect engagement, presenteeism and burn out of other employees. This session will provide HR practitioners with an understanding of the different types of absence, their drivers and best practices to deal with each of them. It will include a review of the “Duty to Accommodate” and strategies for investigating accommodation requests from your employees. The session will appeal to smaller organizations that do not have access to a formal in-house or external occupational health resource. The focus will be on managing absence and accommodation from a functional, non-medically based perspective. In addition, participants will hear from a medium sized business on the success of their development and implementation of a formal attendance management program.
