Occupational Health and Safety Coordinator

The City of Moncton is currently accepting applications for Occupational Health & Safety Coordinator.
This position will coordinate and implement the City’s corporate loss prevention programs in the areas of occupational health and safety. This position provides expertise in assessing risks in the work environment, designing health and safety programs to eliminate or control hazards and to prevent illness or injury in the workplace. In addition, this position provides direction, integration, implementation and evaluation of early return-to-work from illness or injury programs.
Teamwork with other Human Resources staff, department directors, employees, health and safety professionals, insurance companies, government agencies and union executives is key to this position.
This position reports to the Director of Human Resources and will require a seasoned Occupational Health & Safety Coordinator that is passionate about bringing a culture of safety across our organization that has over 650 employees.
• High School graduation and post-secondary education in a field related to Occupational
Health and Safety.
• Canadian Registered Safety Professional designation or eligibility to obtain the designation is preferred.
• Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) or Registered Occupational Hygienist (ROH) would be considered an asset.
• National Construction Safety Officer(NCSO) Designation would be considered an asset.
• Qualified first aid instructor would be considered an asset.
• Must have a minimum of five (5) years progressive experience related to employee and workplace safety (hazard recognition, assessment and mitigation, accident investigation, safety rules and regulations and equipment operations), preferably in a unionized environment.
• Must have experience in coordinating employee benefit programs and return-to-work programs.
• Must have experience in consulting and advising Joint Health & Safety Committees.
• Experience in project management would be considered an asset.
• English essential. The ability to function in French is an asset.
• Theory and practical knowledge of Human Resources Management.
• Working knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act, S.N.B. and the administration thereof is a requirement.
• Knowledge of applicable Federal and Provincial Safety legislation, regulations and safety standards is required.
• Knowledge of occupational health and safety fundamentals, principles, rights, duties and responsibilities.
• Working knowledge of disability management and work place legislation and programs.
• Working knowledge of NB Construction Safety or National Constructions Safety Officer Certification
• Working knowledge of Traffic control
• The incumbent must have strong interpersonal skills with facilitating, coaching, motivating, analytical skills and be highly motivated with respect to implementing change.
• Must have the ability to plan and organize effectively with minimal supervision.
• Must have the ability to work in a team environment.
• Extensive knowledge of Microsoft Office programs, such as Word, Excel, Power Point and Outlook. Knowledge of Windows applications such as Internet/Intranet.
• Must have a valid driver’s license.
