The Mental Health Commission of Canada

Mental Health Commission of Canada500,000 Canadians will not make it to work in any given week because of a mental health problem or illness. These issues also have an impact on the workplace through heightened absenteeism, reduced productivity and increased costs; many of which can be avoided by ensuring a mentally healthy workplace.

Mental health should be thought of in the same way we think about physical health. HR professionals play a key role in leading and promoting this shift in the workplace.

The Mental Health Commission of Canada (MHCC) is proud to partner with the CPHRNB and support its members through the following resources:

Free Resources for Improving Workplace Mental Health – The National Standard of Canada for Psychological Health and Safety in the Workplace (Standard) is a framework that provides guidance on how to promote employees’ psychological health and prevent psychological harm due to workplace factors. Assembling the Pieces: An Implementation Guide to the National Standard for Psychological Health and Safety in the Workplace was developed to help organizations implement the Standard in their workplace by providing practical tools, examples, templates, and scenarios.

Free Monthly Webinars on Workplace Mental Health – The MHCC hosts webinars on integrating Psychological Health and Safety in the workplace on the last Wednesday of every month at noon E.T.

Mental Health First Aid – This program teaches participants how to respond effectively to emerging mental health problems and crises.

The Working Mind – This training program reduces stigma, increases mental resiliency, and teaches employees how to manage stress.

The Road to Mental Readiness – An education-based program based on the Department of National Defence’s program that teaches participants how to identify positive, poor, and declining mental health in themselves and others, as well as coping skills to manage stress and poor mental health.

Guided by Changing Directions, Changing Lives: The Mental Health Strategy for Canada, the MHCC is a catalyst for improving the mental health system and changing the attitudes and behaviours of Canadians around mental health — at home, work and school, as well as with the media and healthcare providers — from coast to coast to coast. Through its unique mandate from Health Canada, the MHCC is Canada’s coordinating agent, bringing together the best and most influential minds in the mental health community.
