500,000 Canadians will not make it to work in any given week because of a mental health problem or illness. These issues also have an impact on the workplace through heightened absenteeism, reduced productivity and increased costs; many of which can be avoided by ensuring a mentally healthy workplace.
Mental health should be thought of in the same way we think about physical health. HR professionals play a key role in leading and promoting this shift in the workplace.
The Mental Health Commission of Canada (MHCC) is proud to partner with the CPHRNB and support its members through the following resources:
- Free Resources for Improving Workplace Mental Health – The National Standard of Canada for Psychological Health and Safety in the Workplace (Standard) is a framework that provides guidance on how to promote employees’ psychological health and prevent psychological harm due to workplace factors. Assembling the Pieces: An Implementation Guide to the National Standard for Psychological Health and Safety in the Workplace was developed to help organizations implement the Standard in their workplace by providing practical tools, examples, templates, and scenarios.
- Mental Health First Aid (VIRTUAL) – This program teaches participants how to respond effectively to emerging mental health problems and crises.
