Sarah Jackson and Shirley Mitchell | ||
Sarah Jackson has 23 years in occupational health and human resource management with experience as a rehabilitation service provider, a long term disability case manager, an employer based occupational health advisor, and human resource consultant in the private and public sectors. Sarah is currently employed with Service New Brunswick, Health Services division. Shirley Mitchell has 25 years of experience as a Generalist and is the HR Manager for Coast Tire & Auto Service. Ltd. She is responsible for over 250 employees in 21 Service Centers throughout the Maritimes. A recent success of Coast Tire has been its Attendance Management Program which includes disability claims management, early assessment & workplace accommodations. In 2014 Coast Tire was awarded for Excellence in Health & Safety by Worksafe NB. | ||

Absence can be a significant cost to an employer both as direct benefit costs and losses of productivity. In addition the indirect costs associated with absence that can effect engagement, presenteeism and burn out of other employees. This session will provide HR practitioners with an understanding of the different types of absence, their drivers and best practices to deal with each of them. It will include a review of the “Duty to Accommodate” and strategies for investigating accommodation requests from your employees. The session will appeal to smaller organizations that do not have access to a formal in-house or external occupational health resource. The focus will be on managing absence and accommodation from a functional, non-medically based perspective. In addition, participants will hear from a medium sized business on the success of their development and implementation of a formal attendance management program. | ||

This session would appeal to HR professionals, organizational leaders, business leaders, managers / administrators, business owners and consultants. LOCATION CherryBrook Zoo will be our new venue for Spring and Fall PD sessions, as a way to support our Zoo. There is free parking, a full hot breakfast and it is wheelchair accessible. The conference room is a short walk through zoo. CANCELLATION POLICY Cancellations after the registration deadline will not be reimbursed.. Unregistered walk-ins will be charged a $5 surcharge. Please note that individuals who register but are unable to attend will be invoiced if they do not cancel before the registration deadline. |
