An industrial psychologist, Jacques Forest, CHRP, is a research professor at the school of management sciences at the Université du Québec in Montréal. He is frequently interviewed for his expertise by media components such as: L'actualité, La Presse or Les Affaires. He has published the results of his studies both in scientific journals (Canadian Journal of Administrative Sciences, Educational and Psychological Measurement) as well as in professional magazines (Effectif, Psychologie Québec, Gestion). He is most interested in analysing the causes and the consequences of pleasure, passion and motivation in the workplace. He also enjoys making his research accessible to a large range of audiences. | ||

At a time when recruiting, retaining employees and overseeing staff performance are priority issues for most, organisations must be resourceful and bold when attempting to attract, engage and retain staff. Management by strengths is an innovative and effective way of meeting this challenge. This type of management complements existing approaches used to optimize worker performance and development. What makes up this new approach? How can we specifically implement it within organisations? Learning Objectives At the end of the course, the participant will be able to: • Understand what is a strength. • Identify the three steps used to define strengths. • Describe the unique characteristics of each step used to define strengths. • State the means available to professionals and managers to identify the strengths of their clients / staff. • Describe the steps proposed in the major documentation on the subject to develop these strengths at work. Content • Why build on strengths? o Main benefits • What is a strength? o History of the approach and definitions proposed by each of the three steps • How to identify the strengths? o Main evaluation instruments o Other available methods • How to develop the application of strengths? o Scientifically proven methods; methods proposed in the major documentation on the subject • Draft an action plan to develop the strengths.
